Thanks for these additional hints - they are all correct.
When dealing with input device there is even one more thing to notice.
Win7 by default often enabled certain 'sound optimizations' on input devices. These are actually DSPs which 'enrich' the sound.
Being honest most of the time they make it sound terribly bad.
The reason is, that MS tried to ease things for consumer users, e.g. using a bad build-in microphone with e.g. Skype.
However, with a decent equipment or even in professional use, you always have to turn those things back off again!
So also double-check your input device and disable any 'optimizations' there.
