To reproduce:
1. Create a news category.
2. Add two reference tracks and click "OK".
3. Edit the news category and remove a reference track and click "OK".
4. Edit the news category again and notice that the previously removed track has returned.

Thanks for reporting this issue.
There indeed seems to be an issue with removing referenced tracks, I can reproduce the issue and will look into it...

A new v4.0.1.53-beta is available, which fixes your issue!
So please, "Check for Beta-Versions..." to get this latest version (which is for the rest exactly the same as the .52
