Playing artist drops over music
Playing artist drops over music
Hi,
I’m trying to play artist drops over playing music where the music volume decreases 25 - 30% while the drop is being played.
I've developed a sequential script and am using an overlay to trigger it, but I'm facing two issues:
1. The overlay requires the script to be longer than 10 seconds. So often skips and will not play.
2. When I run the overlay manually, it completely mutes the music instead of just lowering the volume.
What’s the most effective way to accomplish what I want?
Thank You.

Re: Playing artist drops over music
1. the length of an overlay doesn’t prevent it to be played. So there must be another restriction you have defined.
2. A manual overlay plays it stand-alone.
I am not sure what exactly you want. A standard overlay might do its job. But I assume you have additional requirements, eg. the sweeper must match the artist.
So please also show your Script and overlay definition - some screenshots might help.
Thanks

Re: Playing artist drops over music
Hi.
I've attached the overlay settings.
I've tried different attenuation settings but all result in muting the music to low.
I want the overlay to play while lowering the music slightly.
I've tried attenuating to -90 and -10
Am I attenuating incorrectly.
While searching the forum some folks are using sweepers, perhaps this will work for me.
I'm unable to find information on sweepers in the guide.
Do you have a link I can learn about setting up sweepers?
Thank You

I will test later today…
But see the tutorial videos 17 and 18. The general name is called Track Insert Transition. And there are planty of subjects related to it here in the forum.

Re: Playing artist drops over music
I unfortunately can not reproduce your issue. Here are two examples with -3 dB resp. -10 dB attenuation:
https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fi/zhqzjyje ... 5xeim&dl=0
https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fi/t4hrmfig ... h159f&dl=0
You can clearly here that the underlying playlist continues to play and is attenuated.
But depending on your 'sweeper' you might not notice this. In the above example, that sweeper is quite loud and compressed, so it overrules the normally leveled audio.
Here is an other example, with -5 dB attenuation but a 'softer' leveled overlay:
https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fi/0f8jm4q4 ... tn5h0&dl=0
Note, that a -6 dB attenuation means, that the volume is lowered by 50%. An attenuation of -20 dB means 1/10 of its amplitude (or 1/100 of its energy).
So make an example yourself: play the overlay with 0, -1dB, -2dB, -3dB ... attenuation. Use at best a text spoken audio example to hear the music attenuating...

Re: Playing artist drops over music
There must be a setting in the background that I may have incorrectly set.
I tested Attenuation at -6 and -90 (2 extremes) and both have the same result.

Can I confirm you are adjusting your attenuation in the overlay schedule where it says attenuation ?

Re: Playing artist drops over music
How do you test your overlay?
I can not see the overlay player in the video nor your mixer channels… so where does the overlay play?
And yes, in my test I only change the attenuation value of the overlay entry. I let the overlay play via the scheduler in the overlay player.
And no, there is no other general setting. Please try again with -1dB attenuation value.

Re: Playing artist drops over music
I have attached screenshots of the media library container with the drops, the script config, and the overlay with Attenuation set at -1.00 db
The link is the live stream, so there is a slight delay

I will be out of town for a few days and may not be able to reply for a while.
Thanks.

Re: Playing artist drops over music
That delay is really confusing Where does it com from? Are you processing the signal externally? Can his be your issue?
In the video I can see, that the DJ Player A does play on Output mixer DJ A and it plays in parallel to the Overlay and is not muted, but only slightly attenuated.
The overlay plays on mixer channel PLAY - and I can also see, that it plays correctly in parallel.
Where are the following outputs are routed to:
- DJ Player A
- Overlay
And where do the output mixer channels go to:
- DJ A
- PLAY
- OUT
Are the signals processed by an external mixer? Which one? Are you using any commands/events for this mixer?
And finally please REC (record) the mixer output channels DJ A and PLAY seperately - as I assume, that the problem is not within ProppFrexx, but in your later sound chain - where also this huge delay comes from.
ProppFrexx internally can not generate such delay...
