Searching on USB device
Searching on USB device
Good evening all,
A lot of our DJ's are using there own USB device (like harddisk or USB flash memory). Some of the DJ's has on that device a lot of music. After we add the device in the explorer path we can search around in the folders that's not a problem. Wen we are using the "find track" option, it will not search anything on the USB device. In the find track we have enabled the option "search also on explorer paths". "Find track" will keep searching, even in some cases the complete "find track" option is hanging. Also we can't click then on the red cross or anything to cancel. Restarting ProppFrexx is then the only option. Is there a possibility to fix this, what are we doing wrong?

Re: Searching on USB device
Not much to fix I guess.
I'll try to explain:
a) "Find" by default searches within all entries of all media libs, as such by default any other (unknown) folder is not searched
b) when you added the USB device to your ProppFrexx Explorer Paths and enabled the "search also on explorer paths" option, the "Find" will try to scan all the files in/on that device/folder
However, this requires reading/accessing each and every file (in order to read the TAG data from each and every file).
This is done in an extra thread...BUT...certain (slow) devices eg. connected via a slow USB port...are just too slow to scan and rad all that data.
As such it takes quite long to do that...
It is like if you perform a search via the widows explorer ...that also might take very long...plus...certain USB devices tend to simply 'give up' and 'hand' if you query that device with too many read I7O tasks...
So what is the solution?
Don't use that 'Find' option (search also on explorer paths) with those slow USB devices connected
Instead the DJ/user might prepare a playlist (eg. a .pfp or .pls or .m3u...), which contains all tracks present on that device.
Then you (the DJ) might add that playlist as an additional or even user specific media lib!
And as such "Find" will work fast without issues again.

Re: Searching on USB device
Hi Bernd,
So, i'm back from Holiday. At this moment we are giving all DJ's there own folder on our server. Is it possible to make a music libary only usable to a specific user? So that i don'n find the music of other DJ's?
Thnx.

Re: Searching on USB device
Yes if you take a look to the user settings (eg. click on the user name at the top right once the user is logged in or from within the user management) you can define user specific additional media libs. These are only visible to this user.
