Dedicated server : remote proppfrexx media libraries

Post by TheoOrl45 »

Hi,

Trying to make tests with Media Library Server, I created a virtual machine (windows 7 pro) which should only perform the "remote media library Server" (my ProppFrexx ONAIR instance is installed within any other virtual machine).

I tried to copy only the 2 files :
- Proppfrexx MediaLibraryServer.exe
- Proppfrexx MediaLibraryServer.exe.config
But, after launch and open GUI, program crashes when I click on a tab like "Media Libraries" or "settings". Program also crashes when I try to launch the server by double-clicking on the icon....

I thought that it was because I did not install all the proppfrexx setup (it's weird : I only want to run the media library server, I don't want to copy all the proppfrexx package). Whatever, I tried. But no more results.
Program always crashes when I click on a tab.

On my personal computer (Windows 8 pro), no problem with the same setup... Media Library Server runs perfectly.

Not sure it will help you (to help me) but I give you a zip file that contains 2 of the 3 files created by windows when the popup asks me to "send the error".... The third is too big to be included with this post.
Have you try to launch this program within a virtual machine ? It seems not to work...

Quote annoying.
Any idea ?

Regards,

Who said, that copying only these two files is enough?! And why do you then post this as a bug?
Funny ;-)

Simply copy over the entire content of the ProppFrexx installation folder and then start the "ProppFrexx MediaLibraryServer.exe".

Also note, that the .Net Framework v4.0 or higher is needed on the target computer. But if you are running Vista/Win7 or higher, that should already be installed.

.net 4.5 is installés but the problem persists.

What I would like to say previously is that I wanted only to installé the média library server (I will never use proppfrexx on air on that machine). It's annoying having to install all the files for only using one of them.

Will try to reinstall windows...

Then copy the ProppFrexx folder, but delete any other .exe files than the ""ProppFrexx MediaLibraryServer.exe".
That should do the job.

Installing again Windows 7 had done the job.
But, I suspect something : I didn't install .NET 4 like the previous time.

The first one, I installed .NET using the "setup.exe" with the EULA warning window at the beginning. And it's when it had not worked.
A few minutes ago, I re-installed Windows 7 pro and I used the "ProppFrexx ONAIR Setup.exe". When it asked me to install the .NET 4 framework and guided me to the microsoft Website, I download the .NET framework and installed it.
And after Proppfrexx installation, all is okay.

Is there any difference between the .NET used bu the "setup.exe" and the .NET framework available within Microsoft Website ?

No, the setup guides you to the same sources - that is all done by Microsoft internally and is always the same.
However, it is a bit strange, as normally every Win7 installation comes already shipped with the latest .NET Framework...

It's the official ISO of Windows 7 SP1.
But, each time I made the install, your setup files ask me to install the .NET framework...

Guess that depends 'how old' the Win7 image is.
Initially Win7 was shipped the .NET Framework 3.5 - when applying all updates to Win7 that will also update to the .NET Framework 4.0 or even higher.

ProppFrexx requires at least the .NET Framework 4.0 (or higher) to be installed - which is officially out since 2010.
