Tracksettings changed in playlist not stored

Post by friso »

Hello

I noticed a time ago, that when i set a tracksetting in a playlist, it is not stored correctly after saving it and reopening it.
Example:
I have colored an "Hot" item red, and "new music" green
When i reopen the playlist after saving it, it shows the colors OK, but a couple of seconds they dissapear.
Changes made in de find windoww or explorer are stored correctly, but that is not what i want, because it is only usend for that playlist.

Can you have a look at this?

Thanx

I assume you mean setting the Media Entry Type, e.g. to "Hot", "Music", "New Music" etc.
(else there is no other possibility to change the 'color' directly; the color of the playlist entry is assigned to this entry type!)

However...
The Media Entry Type is an attribute (a meta data value) which is assigned to a track (pretty much like Cue-Points, Volume-Points etc.).
The question now is where is the meta data saved?!

The answer is quite simple:
a) meta data might be saved to the tracks TAG data
b) meta data might be saved to a special .pfmd meta data file (saved along with the physical audio file)
c) meta data might be saved to a .pfp playlist file (I assume you use that playlist format)

Also note, that you can not change the Media Entry Type directly in the Find Window or Explorer Window directly!
Here I assume you open the TAG Editor dialog and as such you always save the changed directly to either a) or b) !

When you now adjust the track settings within your playlist (e.g. your Media Entry Type) these changes are saved to the .pfp playlist (except you explicitly use the 'Save Meta Data TAGs' or 'Save Meta Data File' option).
Meaning by default all local track setting changed made within your playlist are ONLY saved to that playlist.
And there is a good reason for it! You might want to leave the track's meta data as is, but ONLY apply the track settings for this specific playlist!
The same (as said) is true for other meta data, like your Cue-Points, Track Options etc. ... but here it is may be more obvious. You might want to change the segue (Next cue-point) between two track JUST for this playlist (e.g. you are pre-preparing a show or do some voice tracking) - assume those changes would be saved permanently to the track's TAG data. Not a good idea I think.

So remember the 3 possible locations where meta data might be saved.
As you can see, you have the ability to save meta data to at least 3 different places! Which also means, those 3 different places might keep 3 different values for its meta data!

That leaves to the question which meta data (if different) has priority?
By default it is the playlist's meta data which has priority...but as you can configure almost everything within ProppFrexx...

Please check the following option in General Setting, section 'Meta Data/WaveForm' - 'MetaData has Priority':
If checked, external meta data has priority over playlist based meta data.
Default (unchecked):
1. Playlist based meta data
2. Meta Data File (.pfmd)
3. Meta Data TAG (proppfrexx)
Priority (checked):
1. Meta Data TAG (proppfrexx)
2. Meta Data File (.pfmd)
3. Playlist based meta data
Note: (2) is only in effect, if the Use MetaData File option is set.

In your case it sounds like you might have checked the 'Metadata has Priority' option. Simply uncheck this option and in that case the playlist would again have priority.
