Resolve broken playlist entries
Resolve broken playlist entries
Hello
I have tried to enable this (see attachment). I have assumed that this feature fixes the path to the track when it's original location changed.
But when i opened the playlist, it takes longer (that's ok) but the track still looks to the old location.
After searching for that track i can still find it when i search for it.
What am i doing wrong, or is my expectation of this feature not good?

Re: Resolve broken playlist entries
Here is what the feature is doing:
Try to resolve Broken Playlist Entries via GUID (Resolve Broken Playlist Entries via GUID)
This options allows you to try to automatically correct any broken playlist entry (whenever a track is added to a playlist) by searching the file link (path) via its GUID within all your media libraries.
For example: You load a .pfp playlist file which contains tracks each having GUIDs assigned, but which was generated on another machine (and as such the given file locations are invalid). This option now allows you to find the correct file location by searching all media libraries by the given GUID.
A playlist entry is considered broken, if the related file link (path) is unavailable.
Note: If this option is checked, loading/adding of tracks to a playlist might take significantly longer.
So the feature assumes a few things (beside, that it only works when loading new playlist entries):
You need to have a valid and unique GUID assigned to your media lib entries (this is actually done automatically),
but...
if you for example removed an old media library entry and added a new one (now pointing to a different file location; even those the physical file might be the same), those NEW entries do get a new GUID!
There is no way to detect, if a new media library entry references 'logically' the same file !
The feature would however work, if the playlist was e.g. generated by machine A and is then loaded by machine B (whereas both use the same media library, but different file paths)!
So it all depends a bit on how you changed your location within the media library!
As the feature only works, if the underlying GUID of the changed media entries is still the same!
