Corruption when sudden death (power failure)

Helo bernd,

i have this problem happens when a sudden power failure occurs and my pc shuts down suddenly, the problem is when i restart the PC and open PFOA i got an error message idicating that many files have corruption as (Schedualer, Song History, Configuration, my mixer setup, overlay schedualer, etc...)

every time that happens i had to copy a backup version of 3.0 folder and delete the corrupted one.

i guess that happens due to having the files in the 3.0 folder on always processing with the host.

can u work out on solving this issue, for example taking a copy of the 3.0 folder in a temp directory and from time to time save the files in the original folder to keep on the users data updated!

In case of a power failure I am afraid I can not do anything, as in such case I can not guarantee that the OS saves modified files correctly to disk?!
Your proposed solution might also not work, as during such copy operation the power failure might also happen.
I guess you do not have power failures too often, else a UPS power supply (uninterruptible power supply) should be the real and effective solution for you - OR use a battery powered Laptop.

Sorry, but there is no effective solution against sudden power failures - except a battery.

at least at my proposed solution you will reduce the corruption possibility by 50%, as if you set the copy operation every 15 minutes you will minimize the error to the most.

you might put that option in the settings menu wither to use a temp folder or not and also let the user choose the copy process time patter.

i wish you add this option

The mentioned files are already only written to disk whenever a change is made.
E.g. the mixer setup is ONLY saved when you change the mixer setup OR the scheduler file is written when you change the scheduler entries etc. ... all these files are as such NOT saved (written to disk) very often.
The only files, which are changed a bit more often are the entry statistics and the song history.
So your proposed solution wouldn't really help.

Also note, that any OS (Windows) and or your hard disk controller/driver actually caches the data written to disk to optimize performance. So there is no 100% guarantee anyhow when and what data is written at what time.
Of course there might be certain strategies be implemented for High-Availability systems - but believe me, the cost is much higher then a simple battery solution as proposed above!

Also note, that in case of a power failure your entire system might be corrupted incl. a possible hard disk crash (so it is not only ProppFrexx being affected)! In your case you might (luckily) just discovered an issue with ProppFrexx - probably because you used ProppFrexx during the power failure.

In essence I really see no benefit to implement a solution you proposed, as it would only bring the 'chance' or 'probability' down by a few percent! Believe me, it will not bring it down by 50%!

As such, if you are really affected by often power failures, I really recommend a battery backup solution!

Thanks Bernd for your support, i do have a backup power source but you know sometimes things gets out of control.
