Behringer DX2000USB Pro Mixer

Post by atlantico »

Hello all,

Bernd, here I am once again, this means I am alive.
I connected a Behringer DX2000USB Pro Mixer direct to my laptop via USB. The sound on air (online) is very good.
In studio I have some problems that I believe are consequence of some mistakes with the configuration of PFOA.
1 – Main Mixer (pictures attached):
MON, CD1 and CD2 cursors not moving.
The external CD1 and CD2 players connected to the mixer are working and audible online. Do I need to have them on Main Mixer panel or just remove it?
2 – MIC:
with no sound using the “talkuser/talkover” function. The mixer has also a talkover knob but no MIC sound at all. Please take a look to the INP image.
You opinion, as always, is very important and that´s why I am asking for your help.
Cheers
Luis

What exactly is not working resp. what exact problems do you have ?
(maybe I did not fully understand that from your post)

However...
Everything which is directly connected to the mixer isn't needed in ProppFrexx, as the mixer controls these external devices (and not ProppFrexx). As such, I assume you do not need the CD1 and CD2 mixer channels!

The same might (almost) also be true for the INP channel. I assume you directly connect the microphone(s) to your mixer, as such, in order to use them, you would not need any INP channel in ProppFrexx, as all is handled by the mixer in the case as well. Depending on what the recording USB device in the Behringer delivers (e.g. the master output signal or the Mic signal only)? You might still want to use an INP mixer channel for streaming or recording.
BUT... do NOT set any value for 'Output To:' !, as again the routing is handled already by the mixer. If you would route the INP signal back to an output channel, you might create a bad feedback loop! So leave Output To:' for your INP channel empty!

I am not sure what and how many USB devices (recording and playback) the Behringer offers, but I assume one output only (playback) and one input.

Regarding the Talkback and Talkover. As the Mic(s) are connected to the Behringer, you must use the Behringers Talkack and Talkover function.
The TalkOver feature of ProppFrexx might still be used as an alternative, as it would simply lower the volume of the ProppFrexx output channel. But as you are also connecting CDs to the mixer, these would then of course not be effected. That's why I assume you would either use the Behringer TalkOver feature and not the ProppFrexx one.

I am sorry if my questions were not enough clear.
1 - MON is in Main Mixer by default after the configuration, but the cursor is not moving, this is the first problem. Can I remove this MON from panel?
CD1 and CD2 are connected to the mixer and working and I will follow your instructions. I removed CD1 and CD2 from Main Mixer. Working, without any problem.
2 – MIC not working, this is the second problem. I´ll take a look.
3 - Output To… for your INP channel is already empty.
(note: I configured the mixer on PFOA using - Tools/Mixer Setup Wizard/5. External Mixer External Microphones (Complex)

What do you mean by cursor - the level meters - it seems you might have simply muted it - see the red 'M'!

And is anything to the MON channel routeted?
e.g. any player or another mixer channel?

Nothing routed to the MON channel.
I talk and can listen the voice (MIC) on the headphones, but even activating the “Channel On” and “Talkover” on mixer the music level does not low automatically, I need to reduce level manually on mixer, and also the voice (MIC) cannot be listen online (just on headphones)!

But this is a different story. Before you said, that at the MON channel the level meters are not moving.
So I assume this is normal, as if nothing (no signal) is routed to it, they are of course not moving.

If the music level is not falling when you press the Talkover function (I hope you are talking about the ProppFrexx function, as else you should contact Behringer), then check your settings 'Apply Master Volume' - this option must be checked for all mixer channels for which you want to lover the volume.
Just cklick on the '?' icon at the top right of each dialog to get some extensive help...

That you cannot listen to the MIC other than in your headphones also seems to be a mixer setting on the Behringer, which I can not answer here...but I assume there is a related switch for it as well...however, that the MIC from the Behringer mixer is not heard on the Monitor channel of the Behringer is a feature I guess, that is even the default for all radio mixers, in order to not get any feedback from the monitor speakers to your Mic!

Or do you mean you cannot hear the MIC signal in your ProppFrexx streaming?
If that is the case, just see above:
Depending on what the recording USB device in the Behringer delivers (e.g. the master output signal or the Mic signal only)? You might still want to use an INP mixer channel for streaming or recording.

I don't know what mixer channel you are using today for streaming; but I assume it is just the OUT channel?
If that is the case, note, that if you want to setup ProppFrexx for streaming the master sum signal of your mixer; you must create a mixer input channel and connect the output of your Behringer to your soundcard input channel - e.g. use the INP channel.
If the Behringer offers with its USB soundcard a master output signal - then use this directly with your INP channel.
And in your streaming setup then use this INP channel !

1- Now I understand that I do not need the MON channel. As I told you this was generated by default on Main Mixer during the configuration on PFOA using - Tools/Mixer Setup Wizard/5. External Mixer External Microphones (Complex). This is solved.
2 - I found the solution for music level controlling the Talkover knobs: Sensitivity, Time and Damping. Very good.

3 - Now I just need to find a solution for the MIC online. Let me test. I will keep you informed.
