News cue points are not calculated correctly

Post by Havenstad FM »

Hi Bernd,

In our setup we are downloading a newsbulletin every hour. This news track is approx. 2 mins in length, but this length is not fixed and differs every hour.

Whatever i tried with the mixing/fading/acpd settings, the news is not played out correctly. As you can see in the screenshot below i did set up custom mixing for the media type news, and when i look at the testfile it seems that everything is ok, but during the live playout it is almost never correct as you can hear via our stream at http://server2.streamcontrol.eu:20014. Most of the times the last 1-2 seconds are cut off.

The news is planned via de advertising/news module as an overlay with a fixed start time at every hour. Can you explain to me what i am doing wrong, because surely PF can handle this.

With kind regards,

Ofcourse, your first remark was right to the point.

Recently i changed the showing of the overlay player to 5 minutes earlier on request of the dj's and now it occurs to me that this problem must have started at that time. I checked and indeed the news was downloaded 3 minutes áfter the showing of the overlay player.

I changed this and now the problem seems to be gone. I will monitor this some more, but am confident that this was the cause as all the other things you mentioned were setup correctly.

Thanks for the help, Bernd.

The above picture looks correct.

When exactly do you update the physical news file? Are you maybe downloading the news file AFTER the overlay player has been shown?

If not...
Have you maybe excluded the 'News' in the ACPD TrackTypeFilter (see general settings, section Mixing)?

If not...
Are you only playing 1 news file or multiple and is only the first or only the last being cut off?
Note, that when you set the 'Mixing Time Out' in your Overlay Entry to 0, that the overlay is resumed with the Next cue-point!
Mixing Time Out:
Is the segue time in milliseconds between this overlay and the subsequent program.
A positive value calculates the segue time from the end (cue-out) of the last overlay track.
Set to 0 to resume the overlay with the 'Next' cue-point of the last overlay track.
Use a negative value to define a fixed fade-out time (for the overlay's mix-out), in this case the segue time is 40% of this fade-out time.

E.g. try to set the Overlay's 'Mixing Time Out' value to e.g. 500. and see, if that changes things?
