Feedback regarding 2 issues we encountered

Post by Havenstad FM »

Hi Bernd,

In the past few months we encountered the following issues:

1. Our scheduler presents the generated playlists for the next hour at hh:45. If for some reason that next playlist is deleted in the 15 minutes before playout (some users have accidentally removed it) there is no simple way to re-generate it. Even clicking 'Run Scheduler' off and on again does not help. The only way is to create a new playlist and fill it from the same script, but then it will not autostart after the news/commercial block.
It would be nice if the 'Run Scheduler' would create a new playlist after turning it off and on again even though the 'show 900 seconds in advance' of the scheduled program has already passed. Or otherwise create a new function/button to generate a playlist again.

2. We use the Media Library Streamer for our media libraries. A lot of the tracks in our libraries do have an empty album tag. I used extended global history checking with Album set to 5 or 20 minutes. We experienced some troubles with empty playlists where i found that no tracks passed the global history checks although we had plenty of tracks available. The reason was that every track with an empty album tag got the name of the medialib assigned to the album tag. In our case we have some medialibs with approx. 250 tracks without album tags which according to PFOA are all taken from the album <medialib name>. The solution was to not check on album history anymore, but now the tracks that do have an album tag are also not checked.
IMHO an empty album tag should remain empty and should not be evaluated to the global history album check.

With kind regards,

Then your tracks must contain those folder names as real Album tag entries already.
I just double-checked this and it is working fine here! So please double-check you audio files.

You are sure, that you are also running the latest version as a MLS (so you did update both: ProppFrexx ONAIR and your MLS)?!

I might put 1) onto the Wish-List.

Regarding 2) you can uncheck the option to use the folder name as the Album name in the general settings - see the Meta Data section. But you might. need to re-read all your tag data. Note, that by default an empty tag value will not be used in a history check (and skips it)!
However the real solution is tagging your files properly.

Hi Bernd,

Regarding 1) Thanks in advance

Regarding 2) I know the proper way is to fill all tags properly. But for some historical reason (before i joined this station) we have thousands of single tracks with an empty album tag and we have to deal with it for now.

As you can see in the attached screenshots i think the Media setup has been done correctly, but as visible in the second screenshot if you compare the album and filename column, all tracks with an empty album tag have the name of the folder listed as their album. In this case: 70, 80, 90 and NLTop30_2011. The other names are original album tags as embedded in the tracks.

To be sure i also checked the album tags in the tagger again and the third screenshot shows the tagline for the Madonna track where you can see the album tag is indeed empty.

It looks like something is not working as it should...

Are you using a MLS to get the tracks from?
If yes, note that you need to disable that option there as well!
Else an empty album tag would not be populated automatically. And as said an empty album tag would be skipped in the related history check already.
So please check your MLS settings.

Note that you have also enabled the 'MetaData has Priority' option, which might also change the order in which meta data is interpreted. Not sure if your media libs are playlist based, or folder based.

Hi Bernd,

Yes, we are using a MLS. See attached screenshot for the settings. I cannot find an option 'Use Folder as Album Default' here.
All music libs are folder based on the MLS and in PFOA added via 'Folders/Libraries' -> 'Additional Media Libraries' -> 'Add Remote'.

Ohh yes, you are right, I removed that option in the MLS and it now always defaults to TRUE - which is indeed incorrect!

So, I provided a new v4.0.2.11 update, in which it defaults to FALSE now.
This should then resolve all your issues.
Please 'Rescan' you MLS media libs...

Hi Bernd,

I updated to v4.0.2.11, both MLS and PFOA, rescanned all libraries on MLS and PFOA, but still see foldernames in the album tags. Don't know what else to do.

Hi Bernd,

From the screenshots on 27-12-2016 you can see that the album tag was really empty, but i have to admit that i did not check this again after that date. At the moment i am on a short vacation and my hotel wifi is very slow. Therefore i will check again next weekend when i am in the studio again.
