Automatic Track Insert-Transition Option -- Align point
Hi Bernd
Little question about the Automatic Track Insert-Transition Option. When you use the VO: End with Ramp of Next Track, what (cue)point of the insert does PFOA align with the end of the ramp? I've got some sweepers ending with a 'woosh' sound or some other sound I want to let run for a couple of seconds after the end of the ramp. So I've set the 'next' cue at that point in the insert, thinking that that might be the point begin aligned to the ramp
But it looks like PFOA is using either the 'out' cue or the whole length of the insert track. Is that correct?
Best Regards,
André

Yes, 'End with Ramp of Next Track' means, that the End (Cue-Out) of the transition track is align with the Ramp of the next track.
So I guess in your case you need to actually align the Ramp position...

Re: Automatic Track Insert-Transition Option -- Align point
And that's rather difficult, because that will get rid of the whole 'auto insert sweepers' idea we've talked about. When you play the record without a track insert, you want the ramp to be at the normal place (ie to talk up to the ramp). And each sweeper/track insert might have a different ending and as such you have to adjust the ramp for each individual insert/case.
Will it be an idea to
- when no Cue-Next point is set in the track insert, use the Cue-Out
- when a Cue-Next point is set, use that one instead of the Cue-Out ?
Or might that be a problem in other users case.

The whole idea is there for ages in PF, no one complained so far. Meaning, if I now change this all existing customers might complain!
Normally the Ramp ends, e.g. when the vocal part starts...so what sense does it make to play a sweeper over such part?
So the only solution would be to add 2 new transition types...but that needs to wait until the 4.0 is released...so something for a later update...

You don't have to change anything, if all other users are happy with it the way it's working now
I didn't complain
However, I know about a lot of stations who use sweepers with not only voice, but also (a lot of...) effects. And those sweepers tend to (often) end with a fade out of effect(s) after the last part of the voice. And that part, that fo of effects, you want to let run while the vocal already start. In order to not first have to wait for the fo to finish, before the cue out will come and the ramp will end. You know what I mean.
In that case it will perfectly make sense to play at least a part of that sweeper over/under such part. And in that case the Next-cue would be an option.
But if it's not (yet) possible, no problem. In that case we will only use this option for sweepers who 'ends on the voice'.

Re: Automatic Track Insert-Transition Option -- Align point
Yes, I know exactly what you mean!
In the new v4.0 I have already aligned the automatic Attenuation of the transition accordingly, so that the fade-in takes place at the Next cue-point (if existing) - but the Cue-Out position of the insert track is still aligned to the end of the Ramp.
As said, later I can easily add a new transition, e.g. 'Next with Ramp of Next Track' and 'VO: Next with Ramp of Next Track' .

Re: Automatic Track Insert-Transition Option -- Align point
No! I thought about it a bit longer....
You are right, it makes more sense the way you described it. And the v4.0 is a perfect place to change that. As here I am not 100% bound to full backward compatibility and I have added a new 'Convert to Sweeper' item anyhow...
(or you might hold the ALT key while dropping a non-Music track to a playlist to auto-convert such dropped track to a sweeper...
So the v4.0 will align all 'End with ...' transition types to either the Cue or (or if existing) the Next cue-point of the insert track!
