Icecast 2.5 support

Post by Quentin D »

Hello Bernd,

Icecast released the stable version 2.5.0 this year.
I am currently testing this new version, and noticed some incompatibilities related to the title metadata handling for MP3 and AAC formats. ProppFrexx was sending the title correctly to Icecast server version 2.4.x, but not anymore in 2.5 because of a change of stats keys. In 2.4.x, x_icy_title was used, but since 2.5.0 it has been replaced with display-title. Interestingly, it seems they introduced a playlist feature, and we can see the song history in the Title column. See screenshot attached for details.
I couldn't find any setting in the Streaming Server Configuration or Encoder Settings to fix this. Is it a feature not supported yet in ProppFrexx?

Thank you

Quentin

The title update is handled by the BASS lib I am using - I will check with the developer, if he can fix this soon.THX for the hint.

But there is unfortunately NO real documentation available on the ICEcast pages which explains any change?!
They just state, that there is a new endpoint, but without any further info...

Thanks for the quick response.

Icecast docs are very poor indeed, the only partial information I could find might be in this page in the Web interface section:
Added stats key display-title to replace title, and artist
They don't even mention the legacy x_icy_title key, I found it while debugging in the admin interface.

From the source code, it looks like "display-title" is just another name for "title", ie. it would automatically be set?!
If the title is properly set (as it is now), the display-title is set to the same value.

In your screenshot, I can see, that even the title is not properly set. In my tests it is however.

My tests for OGG or FLAC were successfull. All the properties were correctly mapped, and I did a tried on a player, AIMP, it was displaying all the tags properly (Artist, Title, Album, Year, ...).
Have you tried to setup a stream with AAC or MP3?

Can see any difference to an ICEcast v2.4 server?
As I can not see any difference…

Yes, please check both screenshots. Settings are 100% identical (I used Copy Server...) on 2.4 and 2.5. I've also noticed Icecast 2.5 contains display-title and title metadata.

It looks like the problem is that Icecast 2.5 is defaulting to a "ISO8859-1" charset for MP3/AAC mountpoints, when it should be "ISO-8859-1".
The server log shows this when a metadata update is received:

Code: Select all

WARN stats/stats.c No charset found for "ISO8859-1"
The solution is to set the mountpoint's charset in the server config:

Code: Select all

<mount type="normal">
     <mount-name>/stream.mp3</mount-name>
     <charset>ISO-8859-1</charset>
</mount>
I.e. you might want to open a ticket with ICEcast instead...?!
